Aim |
 |
|
| |
To develop an interactive website resource
that teachers could use to test Design and
Technology knowledge understanding and ultimately
capability during D&T lessons. |
| |
|
| |
Description |
| |
|
| |
The Internet is the fastest growing resource
widely accessible to all pupils. The Internet
holds much information which can be used for
research purposes, however there is little
which can be used to form a distance learning
lesson in design and technology. The University
of Victoria Language Centre, Canada has developed
a piece of software that can create interactive
tests which can be uploaded to a website and
form the basis of series of lessons in a particular
topic. Consequently, this fellowship is aimed
at developing suitable tests for improving
knowledge and understanding and ultimately
capability in Design and Technology, and will
also complement a current MA being studied.
The website will need a sponsor in the future
and therefore this will take up an amount
of time to locate said sponsor. Ultimately
the website will develop the language and
literacy skills of pupils as all of the tests
will need correct spelling to answer, combined
with the ability to recognise the vocabulary
being used in the written parts of the tests. |

| |
Outcomes (including dissemination) |
| |
|
| |
 |
research activity that
relates to the types of test teachers
would like to see being developed, and
subsequently use, e.g comprehension,
matching exercises, short answer tests,
multi choice, close activities, etc.
Combined with the focus areas and the
development of TEP technology being
supplied to schools |
 |
research into the types of tests that
contribute best to the improvement of
knowledge, understanding and capability
|
 |
research into distance learning techniques
adopted by successful organisations
|
 |
acquisition of the latest "Hot
Potatoes" software from The University
of Victoria |
 |
a website to accommodate the developed
tests, plus perhaps a CD-ROM which can
be used in schools where the Internet
has not yet been connected |
 |
a website guide that teachers can
use with the tests |
 |
a dissertation for this study |
