Aim |
 |
|
| |
To produce guidelines and procedures
to support Science students in making presentations
to groups. To ensure these match Level 3 Key
Skill specifications for Communication and
Information Technology. |
| |
|
| |
Description |
| |
|
| |
Science students are stereotypically
poor at making presentations to groups. Developing
these skills has not been an assessment objective
of A-level Science syllabuses. From September
2000 the new Key Skill specifications will
be available. These are intended to underpin
the post-16 curriculum and include Communication,
a significant component of which is preparing
and delivering presentations. |
| |
|
| |
Although the new A level specifications
"signpost" where Communication and
IT could be used within the curriculum there
are currently few detailed examples of how
the criteria may be achieved and to what standard. |
| |
|
| |
The project will include: |
| |
|
| |
 |
developing student guidelines
for researching and developing materials
independently to present a topic and
manage a discussion relating to it |
 |
investigating a range of means of
presentation, including the use of IT
|
 |
carrying out trials with students
and validating student outcomes through
the exam board to ensure the resource
gives students the opportunity to provide
evidence that meets national key Skill
standards |
 |
producing teacher guidelines for managing
the process |
|
| |
|
| |
Outcomes (including
dissemination) |
| |
|
| |
 |
a guidance pack for students
and staff, designed to allow students
to generate materials independently |
 |
although the development work will
be done with Chemistry students the
guidelines will be generic |
 |
work will be shared with colleagues
in College and advertised through various
networks |
|
| |
|
| |
