develop a series of investigations which use
datalogging to help students
understand the concepts illustrated |

Project Aims: |
| |
|
| |
 |
To produce at least one
set of workable practical worksheets
for Chemistry Investigations at KS4. |
 |
This will complete the project initiated
by the York Science Enhancement Programme. |
 |
Trial the worksheets with a range
of ability students. |
|
| |
|
| |
Reasons for choice: |
| |
|
| |
 |
Modern technology, ICT,
is routinely used within the scientific
workplace at present. |
 |
It is little used in our school at
present, despite having recently acquiring
some of the hardware. |
 |
To make science more real for students.

More detail: |
| |
|
| |
 |
To date I have tried
several experiments that require tedious
result taking to ensure reliability.
|
 |
This is speeded up using data logging
and downloading the results into computers
to analyse. |
 |
It changes the focus of the experiment
from doing and result taking to analysis
of the results. |
|
| |
|
| |
What I have discovered: |
| |
|
| |
 |
To date I have tried
several experiments that require tedious
result taking to ensure reliability. |
 |
The use of colorimeters was less
accurate than eye for the particular
experiments because the reaction could
not be shaken or stirred. |
 |
I have discovered, by discussing
with colleagues, a suitable practical
that I’m testing at present. |
 |
In my research I have developed one
or two other experiments that could
be used successfully as demonstrations
or class practicals. |
|
| |
|
| |
My Success Criteria: |
| |
|
| |
 |
A series of instruction
sheets for SC1 investigations in Chemistry
that enable students to engage with
modern technology within science and
have a positive learning experience,
without increasing the workload of their
teacher |
