Developing a 14-16 science enhanced work related learning curriculum

Introduction:
   
  My fellowship involves identifying skill shortages in industry and promoting these critical skills in the context of the science curriculum. I have developed a Workplace Science Challenge that is an online science competition for secondary schools. The new website has just been launched and we hope to generate a lot of local publicity. Develop work related science practical activities that are matched to the Key Stage 4 science programme of study Inspire 14-16 year olds to raise motivation and achievement in science Purchase of equipment for work related learning practicals - £400 Sept 04 – Dec 04

Improve teachers’ knowledge of practical science in work related contexts
Widen the development of work related science curricula in other schools

Liase with University of Hull PhD students through established contacts and local scientists to develop 2 week work-based science challenges
Submit project proposals for CREST award accreditation by the British Association for Science
Gifted and talented students work with scientists during 2 week industrial placements
Students accredited with silver / gold CREST award
Buddy system established between gifted and talented students and PhD research students
3 days supply cover at £150 per day - £350
Payment to PhD students at £12 per hour for 10 x 5 hour working days - £600

Liase with scientists from local industries to design exemplar science work experience programmes Raise awareness of students of all abilities to the expectations, opportunities and skills needed within industry 3 days supply cover at £150 per day - £450 Jan 05 – June 05
