Objectives |
| |
|
| |
With school students, to design, develop
and deliver a set of starters that can be
used in KS3 maths lessons. |
| |
|
| |
What is working well? |
| |
|
| |
Developing and testing examples with different
templates, student enthusiasm, staff interest,
using/piloting elements of new technology,
showing off examples to visitors. |
| |
|
| |
Publicity in international conferences and
exhibitions (e.g. 7th International Maths
and Computing Technology conference 2005;
Handheld learning London conference 2005;
BETT Jan 2006). |
| |
|
| |
Commissioned to write four short stories
in the Times Education Supplement. |
| |
|
| |
Commissioned to write a story on a piece
of technology I am using for the TES Online
and TES BETT media pack. |
| |
|
| |
Commissioned by Open University Press to
write a piece on using technology in school. |
| |
|
| |
Provided advice to the DfES on education
Outside the Classroom Consultation Manifesto. |
| |
|
| |
Early positive interest from an educational
materials publisher to develop this further. |
| |
|
| |
Built a website for my Gatsby Fellowship. |
| |
|
| |
Invested in various materials for the project
including DVDs, maths starters from colleagues,
books, pamphlets, the internet e.g. open university,
BBC, MyMaths, Funbrian, and LEA resources. |
| |
|
| |
What is working less well? |
| |
|
| |
I am using what may be called leading edge
technology, yet there is limited technical
assistance in school so I have to buy it myself
outside school- the technology I am using
seems to be beyond the school's technical
ability to sort it out! |
| |
|
| |
Getting Bluetooth and Wifi working consistently. |
| |
|
| |
What are your major frustrations
with it? |
| |
|
| |
Nothing major but I would like to have extra
funding to develop this further e.g. a few
more pocket PCs to try this on, and to pay
for adequate technical support. |
| |
|
| |
What is giving you the most satisfaction
and pleasure? |
| |
|
| |
Seeing what others are doing in lesson starters
and trying that out and then realizing that
what we are doing is even better, more engaging,
more interesting. |
| |
|
| |
Seeing the variety of student ideas. |
| |
|
| |
Seeing the students’ responses to
the project at each stage- the team helping
and the students in classes. |
| |
|
| |
Seeing and nurturing student skills in project
development and management. |
| |
|
| |
Sharing ideas with colleagues in and beyond
the subject. |
| |
|
| |
Piloting the technology and templates. |
| |
|
| |
The next steps |
| |
|
| |
Continue to progress with the current template
using spreadsheets and Flash format. |
| |
|
| |
Develop 20 starters on both formats by Easter
2006. |
| |
|
| |
Test these in classes, receive comments
on and improve where possible. |
| |
|
| |
Anything else you would like to
tell us? |
| |
|
| |
I am mentioning the Gatsby Teacher Fellowship
in all my publicity e.g. in the stories I
get published for the Times Educational Supplement,
going to visit education exhibitions, presenting
at conferences, appearing in the Oxford LEA
Education Magazine in January 2006. |
| |
|
| |
Asking technology suppliers to provide free/complimentary
equipment-ongoing discussions and negotiations. |
| |
|
| |
Continue to talk to a major educational
publisher about this developing material. |
| |
|
| |
Won two international awards at the International
Maths and Computing Conference. |
| |
|
| |
Invited to write two papers for publication
in the International Society for Technology
in education journals. |
