Aim |
 |
|
| |
 |
To integrate study skills
into the GCSE science curriculum, and
use this as an opportunity to expand
the use of ICT in Science |
 |
To enable students to be more confident
about managing their learning and take
more responsibility for their progress
|
|

|
| |
Description |
| |
|
| |
Since becoming a technology
college ICT is having an increasing impact
on teaching and learning styles in science.
The key skills of numeracy, communication,
use of ICT and teamwork are already an integral
part of our teaching and learning in science. |
| |
|
| |
Science is perceived as challenging by some
students because of the amount and complexity
of content that has to be managed and learned.
Improving study skills and identifying preferred
individual learning style would help make
science more accessible and rewarding for
these students. |
| |
|
| |
A lot of data about individual student’s
performance is already stored on our database
and this could be used with the students in
a formative way to encourage them to take
more responsibility for progress. |
| |
|
| |
 |
Set up a student group
drawn from whole ability range of GCSE
science |
 |
Ascertain the student perspective
on the study skills and revision techniques
required by science |
 |
Write materials to support using study
skills e.g. scheduling, action planning
and target setting |
 |
Write materials to help students identify
preferred learning styles |
 |
To work with students and staff in
lessons to monitor and evaluate this
material |
 |
Use of science database of results
to set student targets and inform their
planning |
 |
Use of interactive report package
by staff and students using database
|
 |
Use of college Website to provide
on-line student support both in school
and at home |
 |
Use newspage on science Website and
wall display to keep students and staff
updated |
|
| |
|
| |
Outcomes |
